Conor White returns to dent Jackson Langley’s title charge

Conor White dented leader Jackson Langley’s title challenge with a second victory of the season in the fourth race of the One Communications MTB Series at Lagoon Park on Sunday.

After missing the previous two races, White returned in fine style to win the Male Open 60 Minute class, completing a total of nine laps in 1hr 1min 9sec, pipping Langley, who also managed the same amount of laps, by just a second, .

Che’quan Richardson completed the podium places after completing a lap less in the allotted time, crossing the line a second ahead of Alan Potts.

The result leaves Langley on 87 points in the series standings, ten clear of Potts with defending champion Kavin Smith third on 69 points.

Charlotte Millington joined Wendy-Ann Thomas at the top of the Female Open 60 Minute class standings after beating her main rival.

The pair, along with Jennifer Wilson, all completed seven laps, but it was Millington who did it in the fastest time of 1:05:59, nearly 40 seconds clear of Thomas. The victory leaves both riders locked at the top of the standings on 87 points, with Panzy Olander third on 66.

In the Male Open 30 Minute class, Charles Dunstan and Holger Eiselt both completed four laps in the allotted time, but it was the former who claimed victory in a time of 37:27. Sherman Darrell rounded out the top three, managing a lap less than those in front of him.

In the Novice class, there were tight battles in both the male and female races.

Kareem Johnson ultimately overcame Mark Richardson to secure his first win of the season after both riders managed three laps, with the former doing so more than 30 seconds faster in 30:54. Richard James (34:20), who completed the same amount of laps, rounded off the podium places.

All four riders completed three laps in the corresponding female division, with Katrina Carr pipping Arlene MacGuiness by just four seconds in 34:27. Olivia Bishop claimed third place in 38:06.

There was also joy for Ray Richardson (35:02) in the Male 13-16 division, claiming victory ahead of Sanchez Smith (36:34) and Makao Butterfield (37:09) with all three riders managing four laps.

In the two-rider Female 13-16 division, Skye Ferguson and Kelise Wade both completed four laps, but Ferguson did so three minutes faster than her rival in 37:18.

A dominant Jonah MacGuiness came out on top in the Male 9-12 division, riding four laps, one more than the rest of the field, in 26:35. Alfie Jansma (20:44) was the runner-up ahead of Hannes Swart (20:52).

The Female 9-12 division proved a closer with four riders completing three laps. Ava Swart (22:42) prevailed ahead of Ruby Cook (23:43) and Holly Cook (25:08).
