Newcomer Matt Boys continued his impressive start to competitive cycling on island with a commanding victory in the VT Construction Criterium at the Bermuda Motorpsorts Park in St David’s on Sunday.

The Australian former professional, who moved to Bermuda in December, showcased his credentials by finishing second to Dominique Mayho in the Three Parishes Road Race this month.

However, in the absence of Mayho, the 34-year-old took full advantage to go one better this time around, finishing a lap clear of the rest of the field to clinch victory in a winning time of 36min 56sec.

Stephen Ryan (37:05) settled for second place overall, but took the top honours in the Adult B division ahead of Darren Glasford (37:20). Also competing among that division was Panzy Olander, who was the first female finisher in a time of 37:26, which saw her claim seventh overall.

Gordon Smith came out on top in the Adult C division, pipping Frank Ming to victory by just three seconds in a winning time of 29:11, with Daniel Ringer (29:16) rounding out the top three places, a further second adrift.

There was also delight for Jasper Lau in the Youth 13-14 age division, beating out Sofia Leclerc (19:16) to victory, with Lucas Bule (19:20) completing the podium places.

In a highly competitive Junior class, Walker Smith claimed victory in 20:25, fractionally less than three seconds ahead of nearest rival Jacob Leclerc, who in turn was ten seconds clear of third-placed Ethan Smith (20:18).
