Kaden Hopkins and Conor White just miss out on medals in Brazil
Bermuda’s Kaden Hopkins and Conor White agonisingly missed out on medals in the elite men’s time-trial at the Pan American Cycling Championships in Brazil.
Over an undulating course consisting of three laps of 11.8 kilometres around the streets of Sao Jose Dos Campos in Sao Paulo, Hopkins crossed the line in 44min 55.96sec to claim fourth.
White was fifth and stopped the clock just five seconds slower than Hopkins in 45:00.89 behind Walter Vargas Alzate, of Colombia, with the 2023 Pan American Games time-trial gold medalist following up that success with another major victory here in a time of 42:44.88.
Franklin Archibald Castillo, of Panama, and Venezuela’s Orluis Sanabria claimed the silver and bronze medals respectively.
Despite just missing out on podium places, Bermuda Bicycle Association president was pleased with the performances
“It was a great ride by both guys,” Dunne said.
“They have said they are happy with their efforts and from the view Paulo [Medeiros, mechanic] and I had behind them they were super efficient.”
Bermuda have already picked up one medal at these championships with Nic Narraway winning silver in the under-23 time-trial on Tuesday. He is next in action on Friday in the under-23 road race.
