Cyclist Nicholas Narraway hopes for top-15 finish at World Championships
Nicholas Narraway has had plenty of time to wait before seeing action at the Cycling World Championships in Zurich.
The young Bermudian watched compatriots Conor White and Kaden Hopkins compete in the elite time-trial on Sunday as he prepares to take on the challenge in the under-23 division on Monday.
Narraway, has been in good form this year, winning a silver medal in the under-23 time-trial at the Pan American Road Cycling Championships in Brazil, and is entering the biggest event of his career full of confidence.
“Winning the silver medal in the time-trial in Panama is definitely a good indicator to where I am this year,” Narraway said.
“In theory, I am faster and stronger than I was then, so that fills me with greater confidence as well. I already believe that I am at this level, but hopefully I can prove that now.
“In time trials it always comes down to how you feel on the day and with how things have been going recently I do have some ambition to get a good result, but we will and see if it goes to plan. A top-15 finish I would be happy with.”
Narraway’s training has been going well and he is excited to take on some of the best young riders in the world over the 29.9 km course.
“The build-up in training has been pretty good on the bike with some great performances and numbers, but I’ve also done four time-trial races in the past month and have had great success in all of them both in performance and results,” Narraway said.
“It’s a huge opportunity for me and it will be great to compare myself against the best, but I believe I am capable of competing well here and I will of course enjoy the experience and take it all in.”
