Young riders urged to discover power of cycling
Keen cyclists are being encouraged to join the Bermuda Bicycle Association's 2025 Youth and Junior Road Cycling Programme.
Designed to help young riders aged 13 to 18 build confidence, improve fitness, and discover the thrill of cycling, the programme, which starts this month, aims to provide a supportive and inspiring environment for Bermuda’s next generation of cyclists to follow in the wheel marks of Conor White, a medal winner at the 2023 Pan American Games, Kaden Hopkins and Gabriella Arnold.
To learn more, athletes and parents have been invited by the BBA to attend an information session at Prospect Police Club on Sunday, January 5, at 4pm to to meet the coaches, hear from current participants, and discover how cycling can positively impact young lives.
The programme also includes expert coaching, safety workshops, group rides, and opportunities to compete locally and internationally.
“Cycling isn’t just a sport, it’s a gateway to personal growth and wellbeing,” a spokesman from the BHA said.
“Participants in the programme will benefit from increased confidence, improved focus and holistic health, with cycling strengthening both body and mind, promoting resilience and discipline.”
Charlotte Millington, who won gold and bronze at the Junior Caribbean Cycling Championships in the Dominican Republic in 2023, is one of the island’s leading young riders and says the programme has allowed her to learns skills in and out of the saddle.
“I met my best friend in this programme and the best community I could ask for,” Millington said.
“The junior team is so supportive, and the coaches are always there to help. Cycling has given me confidence, friendships, and the drive to achieve my goals.”
