Kaden Hopkins has five screws inserted to fix broken collarbone
Kaden Hopkins has had five screws and a metal plate inserted to fix a displaced fracture of his collarbone.
The Bermudian cyclist is now recovering at home after spending a few days in hospital in Spain following the injury sustained in a training ride last week.
Hopkins is still in plenty of pain but revealed his doctors were happy with how the surgery went.
“The operation went really well, very smoothly and I spoke to the surgeon after and he said he was really happy with how it went,” Hopkins said.
“I’m doing well but I’m still in a lot of pain. I actually think it’s more painful now after the surgery than it was when I actually broke the collarbone. Now I have a couple of days where I’ll do absolutely nothing, hope it heals well and try to catch up on some sleep.”
Hopkins is hopeful that the team surrounding him will help him make a quick return to the saddle.
“I’m hoping to back on the inside trainer in about five days,” he said. “I’ve got a lot of people here in Alicante helping me out and I have a mate who is a really good physiotherapist and he’s got all the fancy machines and technology that are supposed to help with recovery.
“I’ll be going to him on a daily basis now and hopefully I’ll be back on the road before I know it.”
