Seventh road fatality of 2024 named by police

Police have named a 56-year-old man who lost his life after a collision in Hamilton Parish.

A police spokesman said Damian Simmons sustained serious head and other injuries as a result of a two-motorbike collision along Blue Hole Hill, near the junction with Dolphin Drive, on November 7.

The other rider, a 45-year-old man, sustained a serious leg injury in the incident. Both men were taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

Mr Simmons succumbed to his injuries on November 9.

He is the seventh person to die on Bermuda’s roads this year.

The BPS offered condolences to Mr Simmons’s family and friends and encouraged any witnesses to the collision, which happened at about 6.45pm, to contact Sergeant Milton Hill of the Roads Policing Unit on 515-2481 or at mjhill@bps.bm.

Alternatively, witnesses can call the RPU office at 247-1788 or the main police number 295-0011.

Michael Weeks, the Minister of National Security, said this morning: “It is with deep sadness and a keen sense of empathy that I extend heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Mr Damian Simmons, whose life was tragically lost in a road traffic accident.

“Losing a loved one in such sudden circumstances is a heavy and traumatic burden, and one that I personally understand.

“To those who knew and loved Mr Simmons, please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time of sorrow.”

He added: “I also wish to commend the Bermuda Police Service for their ongoing efforts to provide support to the family and thoroughly investigate this sad and tragic incident.”
