Man suffers serious injuries in South Shore crash
A motorist suffered serious injuries shortly after midnight on Sunday morning in a crash that left his motorcycle caught in a tree.
A police spokesman said that officers came upon the scene of the single vehicle incident while on mobile patrol on South Road in Paget, near Tribe Road Number 4B
“The motorcycle rider, a male, was found lying in a ditch at the side of the westbound lane of South Road and a motorcycle hanging from a branch of a tree nearby,” the spokesman said.
“Officers spoke with witnesses who were on scene and stated the rider was initially travelling east on South Road and overtook a number of vehicles before he made a U-turn and began travelling west on South Road.
“He reportedly lost control of the motorcycle as he attempted to negotiate a right hand bend and went off the road and into the trees.”
The spokesman said the rider was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he was treated for a number of injuries including a collapsed lung, a broken leg and fractured ribs.
However, the injuries were not believed to be life threatening.
Anyone with information about the crash was urged to contact Constable Zahjarie Augustus by e-mail at zaugustus@bps.bm or by calling the main police number, 295-0011.
The collision was one of six recorded by police over the weekend.
An hour before the incident, police responded to a separate collision that involved two motorcycles on Church Street near the junction with Wesley Street.
The spokesman said that when officers arrived on the scene at 11pm, it was ascertained that one motorbike was travelling east along Church Street, when the rider of the second bike, which was travelling east along Wesley Street failed to obey a stop sign at the junction and rode into the path of the first bike.
“This resulted in a collision in which the motorcyclist who was travelling along Church Street sustained abrasions to his face and hands,” the spokesman said.
“He was taken by ambulance to hospital for treatment for his injuries which were described as minor.
“The rider of the other motorcycle left the scene prior to the arrival of the police.”
Witnesses were urged to contact Sergeant Milton Hill at mjhill@bps.bm or by calling 515-2481.
Police also responded to a two-vehicle collision that involved a motorbike and a car in Paget at 8.35pm that same evening.
The spokesman said: “Reports indicate a motor car was being driven east along South Road, Paget, when upon nearing the junction with Lover’s Lane, it was struck by a motorcycle travelling in the opposite direction.
“The male motorcyclist was said to have been approaching a left hand bend in the road when he crossed over into the opposite lane and collided with the motor car.
“He was transported by ambulance to hospital for treatment of head and facial injuries.”
