Small businesses must focus on business goals
Small business owners and entrepreneurs should continue to realise their business goals in 2011 with a shift in the number of dislocated workers deciding to go it alone over the past year.Michelle Khaldun, general manager of the Bermuda Small Business Development Corporation (BSBDC), said that she hoped the “special unheralded heroes” of society would continue to utilise the BSBDC’ s committed and qualified team and programmes as a resource to facilitate their survival, growth and success.Lucrecia Ming, assistant general manager of the BSBDC, said there had been one of the most significant changes in the type of entrepreneurs starting up their own businesses over the past year unlike any she had seen in her 10 years experience in the sector towards those doing it out of necessity because they had lost their job and needed to pay the bills, feed themselves and keep a roof over their heads.Erica Smith, the BSBDC’s Economic Empowerment Zone Agency director, said she hoped that small businesses and entrepreneurs would be able to weather the tough economic conditions that will continue in 2011.
