HSBC raises commercial lending rate by 0.25%
HSBC Bank Bermuda Ltd. will be raising its commercial lending base rate by 0.25 percent for its business banking clients.The increase will effect only mortgages and loans held by business clients and is the first rate change in three years.A spokeswoman for the bank said: “We constantly review our products to ensure we have them appropriately priced, taking into account underlying interest rates and the risk/return on the portfolio.“On several occasions in the past the bank has lowered lending rates without being prompted by specific movements in the US. Our commercial lending portfolio continues be very high quality and our team remains committed to working closely with our clients to help their business grow and thrive.”The bank’s personal base rate, for residential mortgages, will not be changing.
