Levitt offers ideas to tackle global warming
Freakonomics co-author Steve Levitt gave a unique insight into tackling the issue of global warming during his visit to Bermuda this week.Mr Levitt, who was the keynote speaker at the Capital G Private Wealth Conference held at the Rosewood Tucker’s Point Hotel & Spa held yesterday, outlined three possible solutions for reducing the effect of greenhouse gas and lower the earth’s temperature. The first option, he said, was based on the science of volcano eruptions by using a hose to pump sulphur dioxide into the stratosphere. The second was to attach balloons to electricity generation smoke stacks to release the sulphur dioxide. The third was to use solar powered dinghies to produce a mist which would reflect the sun back. But he said that while all of the concepts worked in theory none of these ideas had been properly tested - the cost of which was minimal compared to the potential value it could offer.
