Belco will not pass on RA fee rise until next month
The Bermuda Electric Light Company Ltd has announced that electricity fee increases imposed by the Regulatory Authority this week will not be passed on to customers until May 1.
Belco said the RA’s announcement on Wednesday that electricity fees paid to the RA will temporarily increase from 0.475 of a cent per kilowatt hour to 0.635 of a cent per kWh became effective April 1, and will be used to fund a series of wind studies.
Belco said the RA fee is a pass-through fee levied by the RA to fund their operations and is shown on customers’ billing statements.
Belco said that it will not pass-through this additional charge to customers for the month of April but it will be applied beginning May 1 to allow an ample notification period for the utility company’s customers.
