Friday’s announcement that the Ross (Blackie) Talbot Charity Classic golf tournament will end after next year is very disappointing.Clement Talbot, the driving force behind the charity event that was named for his music legend father, deserves enormous credit for his work over the years. The numbers speak for themselves. Over 19 events, more than $3.2 million has been raised for a wide range of charities. And more than 40 young people have had help with furher education as a direct result of the tournament. So this will leave a huge gap in Bermuda’s charity and education structures. Here’s hoping that Mr Talbot can be persuaded to change his mind, or that other people come forward to keep this great tradition going.
