Darius Tucker
Political commentator Christian Dunleavy first noted the curious fact that the Progressive Labour Party now has as many members elected under the banner of the United Bermuda Party as the United Bermuda Party does two.Mr Tucker, who has sat as an Independent for the last two years, has said his decision is not about ideology but about supporting the Premier as she tries to lead the Island through these difficult times. So this will be a welcome endorsement for Premier Paula Cox, who has been coming in for increasing criticism within and without the PLP.Whether it will benefit Mr Tucker remains to be seen. If his colleague Wayne Furbert’s experience is anything to go by, it may not. Mr Furbert now faces two internal challenges for his Hamilton West seat. It’s not clear how hard the One Bermuda Alliance tried to get Mr Tucker to join them and Hamilton South will certainly be one of the seats that it will be targeting in a general election, regardless of whether Mr Tucker runs or not.
