Pot luck luncheon to raise school funds
A government worker has cooked up a pot luck luncheon that she hopes will raise necessary funds for her to return to school.Christine Jones, 24, said when she was accepted into Shillington College to study media arts she was elated. The receptionist soon realised she couldn’t afford the tuition by April she was $6,000 short of her goal. She came up with the idea of organising a pot luck luncheon and sent out an invitation to her friends and family the flier has now been sent around the Island.“I was starting to doubt whether I could achieve my goal of going to school. I was hung up on how I was going to make it happen,” she said. “Someone told me, ‘Just go for it, don’t worry about the how and things will fall in place’. I took those words to heart. “Now I am putting myself out there and hoping, praying and wishing that it all comes together. With the help of the public, it can.”Ms Jones said she will prepare the food at the Bermuda Public Service Union with assistance from a few friends. Her father and a friend will then make deliveries throughout Hamilton, but food can also be picked up at the BPSU Hall.“This is my second pot luck to raise funds,” she said. “I thought it would be better to provide a service, a cooked meal. Some people enjoy it when they don’t have to cook it themselves, and can have it delivered to them.”Each ticket will cost $10, and Ms Jones said she hopes she is able to sell around 100.The luncheon will be held between 12pm and 3pm next Friday, January 28.
