Education Minister Dame Jennifer Smith meets with UWI over education opportunities

A Bermuda delegation is in Jamaica to discuss the Island’s new ties with the University of the West Indies (UWI).Education Minister Jennifer Smith is in Kingston with Permanent Secretary Warren Jones, policy analyst Kimberley McKeown, and Bermuda College president Duranda Greene.The group is meeting Jamaican Education Minister Andrew Holness, as well as UWI vice chancellor Nigel Harris and principal Gordon Shelley.Dame Jennifer said the trip was to fine-tune details of Bermuda’s relationship with the University, in time for the coming academic year.A Memorandum of Understanding, signed with UWI in August by former Premier Ewart Brown, is to come into effect this SeptemberThe UWI Schools of nursing, education, medicine and social sciences are areas of special interest, with the group touring the UWI hospital and other facilities.
