Mother angered at TN Tatem Middle uniform change
A mother claims her son and many others were turned away from TN Tatem Middle School for wearing the wrong uniform. The 11-year-old boy, who was off sick for long periods of last term, said he was caught unaware because he had not been told the uniform had changed. His mother said a long line of other children were also sent home on Tuesday after arriving without the navy blue winter blazer. She said she spent $96 kitting her son out in the correct outfit, but questioned how many other parents would be able to afford that so soon after Christmas. The school did not respond to press queries regarding the matter.“My son has been wearing his sweater without a blazer since November and nobody told him he was wrong,” the child’s mother told The Royal Gazette.“But when he got to school on the first day back after Christmas they sent him home because they said his outfit was inappropriate.“My son has been in and out of school a lot because he’s been very sickly, so I’m not too happy that when he is finally well enough to go he gets sent back home.“If we’d had a note, he would have gone in the right uniform. Other children were sent home too, so we can’t have been the only ones not to get the message.“He said there was a long line of children who weren’t wearing the blazer. I think it must be a misunderstanding for so many students not to know the uniform has changed.”The mother said the blazer cost $72, with the school crest $12 to buy and another $12 to sew on.“These blazers are not cheap,” she said. “I could afford to buy it, but I think a lot of mothers might not be able to, especially in these times and straight after Christmas.”The Ministry of Education said it was not aware of the situation at TN Tatem.
