Celebration and remembrance at graduation ceremony

The Adult Education School this week celebrated the graduation of 42 students and remembered the tragic loss of one.Executive director Donna Daniels recalled her time with 18-year-old Malcolm Outerbridge, fatally stabbed on the Railway Trail in Warwick in October.“He has served as an inspiration to us,” Ms Daniels said at Tuesday’s graduation ceremony at City Hall. “We know that his spirit is with us today.“Give thanks for life and give thanks for all the opportunities you have. Treasure your family, friends and neighbours as nothing is promised.”Ms Daniels celebrated the graduating students who used the programme to get an education, saying their success was something worth talking about.“The Adult Education School is in the business of educating people so they might have a second chance at personal and professional fulfillment,” she said.“I would like to think that even with all that Bermuda is experiencing, we have a chance to get it right by educating our young people and giving them a chance.”Salutatorian Eron Woods told the audience of friends, family and fellow graduates he was thankful for the support he and his classmates received from school staff.Mr Woods, who is now enrolled at Bermuda College, told his fellow graduates to take advantage of the opportunities presented to them.Also celebrated was Dylan Simons, who earned the highest grade point average overall, and the highest GPA in writing, science, social studies and reading in May and June 2012.Kelah Osbourne earned the highest overall GPA in December 2011. She tied for the highest GPA in mathematics and science.
