Berkeley Institute principal to retire next year

The search is on for a new principal at the Berkeley Institute to replace Michelle Simmons on her retirement in June next year, marking the end of “close to 20 years” as principal.Head of the school’s Board of Governors, Craig Bridgewater said: “Under her leadership the School has undergone a huge transition as it evolved into a comprehensive learning institution and relocated to a new state of the art facility.“Mrs Simmons set international standards and challenged faculty and students to achieve academic excellence,” said Mr Bridgewater.The new post holder will be responsible to the Board of Governors for the academic leadership and day-to-day management of the school.The Board will consult with parents, teachers, students, the Ministry of Education and the business community “as part of the recruitment process”.“These are our stakeholders and our aim with the stakeholder consultation phase is to ensure that we have their input in refining the skills and knowledge criteria required by a new Principal to ensure that we can achieve even greater student success in accordance with international standards in the future,” he said.The new post holder is expected to assume leadership prior to September 2013.
