A Cambridge University first for Warwick Academy
Warwick Academy has celebrated its biggest graduating class.Out of 60 International Baccalaureate students, 57 are heading on to higher education, with the remaining three going into the workforce.The class of 2013 valedictorian, Anna Dobson, has been accepted as an undergraduate at the UK’s Cambridge University — a first for the school.Principal Maggie McCorkell said the sheer number of IB graduates reinforced the popularity of the programme in Warwick Academy and on the Island.Other noted graduates were Matthew Wedlich, attending University College London; Keiran Hamilton, awarded the XL scholarship, who will attend the UK’s Warwick University, and Exeter University students Amber Wilson and Ciara Svensen.Jaishelbi Johnston is to travel to Chile on Rotary Exchange, and Kaelan Robinson will attend Mikkeli University of Applied Sciences in Finland.Anna Dobson also received the Outstanding Student Award from the Chartered Accountants of Bermuda.The Belco Best in Mathematics Award went to Owen Siese; the Award of Excellence from PriceWaterhouseCooper to Matthew Wedlich; the Young Values Prize from Ernst and Young to Aaron Phillips; the Deloitte Student Values Award to Chas Smith, and HSBC’s Recruit Extraordinary People Award to Deondre Trott.Useful website: www.warwickacad.bm.
