Oxford-bound Bermuda student is a ‘future leader’

A former Warwick Academy student has been recognised as a future leader by a UK organisation that highlights the stellar performances of top black students.Oxford University student Kevin Minors was given the accolade by Future Leaders 2012-2013 magazine for his outstanding academic record and charity work.Mr Minors, 21, who last week was awarded the $25,000 Sir A Dudley Spurling Postgraduate Scholarship and is about to start a master’s degree in maths at Oxford, was nominated for the recognition following a poll of all universities and colleges in the UK. He was subsequently interviewed by a Future Leaders panel which placed him sixth — and top male — out of a final list of 100 future leaders.As well as being a maths whizz, Mr Minors is a keen athlete and has raised thousands of dollars for charity by completing gruelling, physical challenges.Last year he conquered Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, raising $6,000 for Childreach, and in September he plans to take part in a 450-mile cycle ride from Jodhpur to the Taj Mahal in India.Despite his globetrotting exploits, Mr Minors always has one eye on home, and intends to return to Bermuda once he has completed his studies.l See full story in today’s Lifestyle section.
