Government filled 63 teacher vacancies over the summer, out of the roughly 900 jobs across the public school system.Describing staffing as “a moving target” that had posed challenges in the past, Acting Education Minister Grant Gibbons said another 12 posts would be still vacant at the start of school. However, he said those positions would be filled “either through stand-ins or by hiring additional people in the Ministry”.“Some 55 positions have been filled at this point,” Dr Gibbons said yesterday. “A further eight will be filled by the time school starts”.The Ministry had to adjust for retirements, non-renewal of contracts and “some resignations in the past couple of weeks”, Dr Gibbons added.
