Arts Council hands out education grants
Three Bermudians studying visual and performing arts overseas have received grants from the Bermuda Arts Council (BAC) and Department of Community and Cultural Affairs.
Deondre Cumberbatch received $10,000 to continue her studying for a Bachelor of Fine Arts in sculpture and painting studies at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta.
Charles Godet Thomas received $5,000 to continue his pursuit of a Master of Fine Arts at the Royal College of Art in London.
Kioshi Burgess was awarded $3,000 to continue his studies at William Patterson University in New Jersey, pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Music.
Minister of Community, Culture and Sports, Wayne Scott, and Nishanthi Bailey, deputy chair of BAC, made the cheque presentation to the recipients.
“The Arts Council is pleased to be in a position to financially support the educational endeavours of our local artists,” said Ms Bailey. “We are continually impressed with the level of talent that lives on our Island, and we are always willing to being a part of the journey of growth that our arts community engages in.
“We wish all of the applicants, and this Fall’s award recipients the best of luck during their further education as they pursue their artistic goals.”
Minister Scott congratulated the students and thanked BAC for its efforts to provide financial support for deserving students.
