Ministry has no comment on report of teachers’ protest
Reports that teachers at CedarBridge Academy halted classes yesterday over the reinstatement of a disruptive student elicited no comment last night from the Ministry of Education.
ZBM reported that Education Commissioner Edmond Heatley had allowed a suspended male student back into school — prompting outcry from educators who demanded a “zero tolerance approach” to students that threatened teachers.
The student in question was said to have told a teacher that he could “have him killed”.
An Education spokeswoman said the Ministry declined to comment, directing questions to school board chairman Anthony Francis — who told The Royal Gazette: “Teachers in our administration have been talking about this issue since last year. I have not been advised of what happened today, but I can tell you this matter had nothing to do with the board of governors; this is completely an academic matter under the control of Dr Heatley.”
Students were reportedly sent to the school’s assembly hall while an undisclosed number of teachers called a meeting to discuss the matter.
