Warwick Academy celebrates International Baccalaureate success

Students from Warwick Academy are celebrating an “outstanding” 100 percent pass rate for the International Baccalaureate Diploma.

Some gifted pupils scored more than 90 and 80 percent and the school’s average score beat the global average.

Principal Maggie McCorkell said: “The school’s graduating class raised the bar yet again by achieving their best ever overall results with a 100 percent pass rate in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma programme.

“The students also achieved a 100 percent pass rate in the individual subjects.

“The schools’ average diploma score is 32.38 points per student. With the worldwide average placed at 29.80 points, this is a very good measure to benchmark the strength of the programme at the school and it is inclusive of all students, not only those at the top end.

“Many students are now going on to study at some of the most outstanding universities in the world.”

These include Lindsay Fisher, who will go on to study medicine at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, and Russell Conyers, who will take up a place at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Both scored 41 out of 45 in the IB.

Melissa Fiddick, who scored 38 out of 45, will study international business at the University of Victoria, Canada, while Jasmine Lee — with a score of 37 points — will begin a fine arts degree at the University of British Columbia.

Other high scorers were Morgan Smith, Hayley Smith and Peter Webb with 36 points.

Mrs McCorkell added: “There were some outstanding individual scores. Warwick Academy reported earlier this year that both Russell Conyers and Lindsay Fisher made school history with direct entry offers to study medicine at the University of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Their IB results have confirmed their places at these prestigious institutions.

“These excellent results are the culmination of a great deal of hard work and effort by both the students and their teachers. On behalf of Warwick Academy, I would like to congratulate all involved.”
