New Education Minister visits CedarBridge

New Education Minister Wayne Scott visited CedarBridge Academy yesterday to meet the school’s students and administration.

According to a press release, Mr Scott spoke with principal Kalmar Richards and school staff about academics, athletics, support and student services and family management before talking with students.

“When I asked the students what they expected from the ministry, there was no hesitation,” Mr Scott said. “They shared their concerns regarding consistency with testing and graduation requirements; increasing IGSC opportunities at the middle school and insisting on raising the bar so that all students can perform at a higher level.

“These young leaders are filled with school pride. They are very supportive of their school administration and the opportunities afforded to them at CedarBridge. Clearly, the students have embraced their school theme ‘Push Until Success Happens’.

“Overall, it was good meeting: insightful discussion and clearly we have to raise the bar and be accountable to all our students to provide the best education possible.”

Mr Scott, who was named Education Minister this month, has also visited Purvis Primary School, Child Development Programme and had an “informal courtesy call” with the Bermuda Union of Teachers.

The Education Minister also spoke with school principals at the Department of Education’s first meeting with school administrators for 2015, thanking them for their hard work and their commitment to education, elaborating on his commitment to public school education.
