Bermuda College students live the sea life
Two Bermuda College students, Joshua Stephens and Gary Taylor, spent the past weekend with a crew of scientists and their environmental science lecturer, Amy Harvey, on board the marine research vessel Sea Dragon.
The group was investigating the biodiversity of sea life in sargassum seaweed in the Sargasso Sea and examining marine plastics and the impact such materials have on the ocean.
Ms Harvey described the experience as “amazing”, noting that the students represented the college well. “[The experience] not only involved carrying out important scientific research, but also required immense teamwork to sail the boat,” Ms Harvey said. “It was a hands-on trip in very windy conditions.”
Lead scientist on the expedition was Robbie Smith, of the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo, who invited Ms Harvey along with the two environmental science students to conduct the important research.
