Teachers, parents and staff met this morning at the TN Tatem Middle School to air concerns over the conditions of facilities there.

Repairs to the building, and the mould issues that have afflicted a number of Government buildings, are understood to be among problems.

Issues were discussed with the Permanent Secretary, Valerie Robinson-James, along with the ministry’s facilities team and the Government’s Health and Safety Officer.

Discussions centred on “planning a way forward”, according to a ministry spokeswoman, while trying to minimise disruptions to classroom.

The spokeswoman called it “a productive meeting, with both the ministry and school staff agreeing to work collaboratively to address concerns raised”.

The state of the island’s public schools was prominent in a union demonstration held this September, in which the Bermuda Government was accused of neglecting the island’s infrastructure.
