Bermuda High School students merged environmental awareness with high fashion for their sixth annual ecoRunway event.

As part of the annual event, six teams of students were tasked with creating two outfits using at least 50 per cent recycled materials.

The outfits — one ready to wear and the second avant-guard — would then be judged on originality, wearability and creative use of materials.

Meanwhile a group of IB2 students ran and organised the show, working on the marketing, ticket sales and making sure the show itself ran smoothly.

The teams utilised a range of recycled materials for their creations, including newspaper, plastic bags, rope, CDs, books, magazines, comics and a rice bag.

A spokeswoman said: “The students worked outside of school hours to complete their looks, keeping within the theme of ‘adventure’.

“They discovered through the weeks of preparation that it was not just a fun activity, but one that tested the bonds of team work, resilience, patience, ingenuity, engineering skills and creativity.”

Almost 200 teachers, parents and students filled the school’s hall last Friday for the final show, with Iman Asante, Vanese Flood Gordon and Isabelle Ramsay-Brackstone serving as judges.

At the end of the day Kameron Young and Zillah Welch took hope the top prize for their Game of Thrones inspired avant garde piece.
