Psychologist returns to Saltus
Saltus will welcome back Dr. Michael Thompson, renowned psychologist and co-author of many popular parenting books including New York Best Seller - ‘Raising Cain’ on Tuesday, 29th January 2019. Dr. Thompson has been working with the school since 2017 to provide parents, teachers, and students with tools to aid young people in navigating the issues prevalent in our society today.
Raising responsible children is a multi-faceted topic and includes maintaining a thoughtful approach to social media. A public session is available on Tuesday, 29th January 2019 at 6:00pm. To register go to www.saltus.bm/events. The discussion is designed to walk parents through the challenges of communicating with children regarding the issues of responsibility.
“Our entire school community is very much looking forward to the session with Dr. Thompson.” said Shelly Sayers, Director of Upper Primary (which includes years 3-6 at Saltus). “He has a unique style which mixes anecdote and clinical experience with research and appeals to parents on a personal level.”
Dr. Thompson will also provide a first-time opportunity for “dads only” on the Importance of Fathers in Children’s Lives. This will be a breakfast meeting scheduled for Wednesday 30th January 2019, at 7:30am. Also available to the public, this session is sure to be an informative discussion on the cognitive and behavioral impact of male role models in the overall general health and well-being of children.
Event orgnaiser and Director of Middle School at Saltus, Ann Paynter, is pleased to have Dr. Thompson work with the school’s faculty while he is in Bermuda. Topics to be discussed range from “How do we as adults help students build a sense of belonging?” to “How to create an environment to support students who are feeling stressed/anxious?”. Dr. Thompson will also spend time with student groups at Saltus while he is in Bermuda, discussing stress and time management; as well as dealing with rumors and gossip.
Michael G. Thompson, Ph.D. is a consultant, author and psychologist specializing in children and families. He is the supervising psychologist for the Belmont Hill School, Boston and has worked in more than seven hundred schools across the United States, as well as in international schools in Central America, Europe, Africa and Asia.
