Howell named principal of St Johnsbury Academy

A new headteacher has been announced for St Johnsbury Academy, an independent boarding school in northern Vermont popular with Bermudian students.

Sharon Howell, whose last post was principal at Indian Springs School in Birmingham, Alabama, will succeed Thomas Lovett on July 1 next year, the academy’s board announced this week.

Dr Howell also served as associate head of school for strategic planning and administration at Northfield Mount Hermon School in Gill, Massachusetts.

Her education career began as the Allston Burr resident dean in Adams House, and lecturer in history and literature on the faculty of arts and sciences at Harvard University.

She holds a doctorate in English and American Literature and Language from Harvard University, an Master’s degree in English from Villanova University, and a Bachelor’s degree in English from Connecticut College.

Dr Howell will join St Johnsbury Academy with her husband Tom, a former Teaching Fellow in visual and environmental studies at Harvard, and their children Ethan and Maggie, both of whom will attend the school beginning in autumn, 2020.
