Registration for children set to enter public primary school in September will begin next month.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Education said registration for P1 students will take place on February 24 to 26.

The spokeswoman said: “These dates have been adjusted from the original timelines shared in November 2019 to accommodate ongoing discussions with school leaders on matters related to school enrolment.

“Primary schools will hold an open house on one or more days during February 17, 18 and 19 — a schedule of school open house dates will be provided in due course.”

The spokeswoman also confirmed that a rumoured “foundation” or “reception” year programme would not be introduced in September 2020.

Media reports in December suggested that Government had considered replacing P1 with a foundation year over concerns that children in preschool had difficulty transitioning to primary school.

But the Ministry of Education said there were no plans to eliminate P1.
