BHS student has perfect IB results
A student at Bermuda High School received a perfect score for her International Baccalaureate programme.
Mia Oleksak, who received 45 points, was one of five students from the school who scored 40 points or higher this year – placing them in the top 0.09 percentile of more than 170,000 IB candidates around the world.
Mia will take a gap year before studying physics at the Imperial College of London or the University of Toronto.
Overall, the 27 BHS students who took the IB exams had an average point score of 35 – two points higher than the worldwide average – with 60 per cent of the cohort scored above this bar.
Linda Parker, the head of the school, said: “Our students have done a phenomenal job this year and we are so proud that 100 per cent of the students who chose to follow the IB Diploma pathway have achieved it.”
She added: “This cohort has had a tumultuous two years with the ups and downs of Covid-19, but despite the challenges of moving from in-person to remote learning during their IB years, they have all shown themselves to be dedicated, determined and focused.”
Other results included Ella Rouja who scored 42 points and plans to take a gap year before studying philosophy and creative writing at the University of Exeter in the UK or the University of British Columbia in Canada.
Hailey O’Donnell scored 41 points and will study economics and physics at Hamilton College in the US.
Genevieve Lau, who scored 40 points, will pursue a Bachelor of Science majoring in mathematics at McGill University in Canada.
Leahnae Morton-Richardson also scored 40 points and will attend Dalhousie University in Canada to study accounting.
Ten other pupils scored on or above their class’s average point score.
Shayla Calauro, Skye Oliveira and Jasmin Williams all received 39 points.
Shayla will study international development and business at the University of Guelph in Canada, while Skye plans to attend Tufts University in the US to study economics and Chinese.
Jasmin will attend Western University in Canada to study computer science and business administration or Loughborough University in the UK to study Information Technology Management for business.
Kiara Burcher and Linnea Kuruvilla also scored 38 points for their diploma.
Kiara also plans to attend Western University and hopes to study computer science and mathematics, while Linnea will attend Duke University in the US to study music.
Daina Babeckas scored 37 points and will study music at the University of Toronto.
Jaime Procter, who also scored 37 points, will attend Dalhousie University for a Bachelor of Science.
Chiara Mackay received 36 points and hopes to study psychology at Dalhousie University, while Sophia Stevens scored 35 points and will finance and international business at the University of Reading at the UK.
