The Mirrors Programme has put a spotlight on student art as part of its annual Student Art and Digital exhibit at Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art.

This year’s event tasked Bermuda’s young people with creating art with the theme of “Embracing our Differences: Diversity and Inclusion”.

Those who attend the exhibition, which is open until August 3, will be able to vote for the event’s People’s Choice award.

John Perinchief, the chairman of the Mirrors Alumni and Friends Association, said the group were delighted to be a part of the event.

“The quality of the art and digital submissions has grown from year to year,” Mr Perinchief said. “Bermuda has so many talented young artists who have the amazing ability to express themselves through art.”

Kimberley Jackson, Mirrors programme manager, said: “It is not only about the prizes that our schools stand to win, but more importantly it is about unearthing young talent among our children.

“We have engaged with students through this competition who expressed interest and some that discovered their passion to pursue art as a career and that fits with our overall mission of reaching one’s full potential.”

Ernest Peets, the Minister of Youth, Culture and Sport, said: “The artwork is phenomenal and shows imaginative creativity of our students.

“It was difficult to choose one student in each category because of the quality of how students captured the theme”.

Risa Hunter of Masterworks added that this year’s theme was timely as it reinforced the use of art to explore identity and cultural heritage.

She said: “We continue to believe that all students in Bermuda should have opportunities to connect to their inner artist and express themselves creatively.”

The exhibit is open Monday through Saturday from 10am to 4pm until August 3.
