Bermudian academic to highlight island’s dialect at international event
A Bermudian adviser and tutor is set to speak at an international conference on the English language about the Bermudian dialect.
Yesha Townsend, an adviser and tutor at Bermuda College’s Centre for Learning and Academic Success, will be a keynote speaker at the first Oxford English Dictionary’s World English Symposium, to be held in the UK this week.
Ms Townsend, who was recommended for the conference by Rosemary Hall, a Bermudian academic and researcher, will discuss the importance of heritage and identity in the island’s colloquial language and dialect.
The symposium will also include lectures, discussion and research on English dialects around the world.
The presentation is scheduled to be delivered on Wednesday at 5am Bermuda time.
