Art exhibition celebrates 125th anniversary of The Berkeley Institute
An art exhibition celebrating the 125th anniversary of The Berkeley Institute is due to open this month.
The Berkeley Educational Society is inviting special guests to the opening night, which features a silent auction starting at 6pm on April 21, in the Berkeley History Room in the lower atrium at the main entrance of the school.
The show opens to the general public on April 22, when the silent auction will continue until 6pm with works by exhibitors including alumni. Proceeds of the auction will go towards the school.
A spokeswoman for The Berkeley Institute said: “This art show includes many alumni who were taught by the school’s first Bermudian and most prominent art teacher, Mr Charles Lloyd Tucker, whose artwork will also be highlighted.
“One alumna is Mrs Eloise Furbert whose husband Mr F.S. Furbert was the first Bermudian principal of The Berkeley Institute. She is a self-taught artist with outstanding artwork in her repertoire.
“Today, the tradition of excellence in the performing and visual arts at The Berkeley Institute continues with a complement of dedicated teachers and many gifted students.”
