Events lined up to celebrate school’s 90th anniversary
Alumni and supporters of Victor Scott Primary School are being invited to celebrate the school’s 90th anniversary next month.
A seniors tea, an alumni reunion and a dinner will be held to commemorate the milestone.
According to principal Kennelyn Smith, the celebrations are two years behind schedule, as the school actually celebrated 90 years of operation in 2021, but events were delayed owing to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Senior citizens will be treated to music, tea and other delights on May 18, inside the school assembly hall, starting at 1pm.
Ms Smith said: “There are a lot of seniors who are alumni who are still around, so we are doing this to honour them and give them something that they can be a part of, as opposed to some of other major events they might not get out for.”
Alumni are also being invited to catch up and engage in friendly rivalry on the school grounds on May 19.
Ms Smith said: “It is an opportunity to socialise and see what our alumni are doing. We will also have donation boxes that will help with some of the projects we are doing.”
The celebrations will conclude with a dinner on May 20, which will also be held on the school grounds.
According to Ms Smith, organisers budgeted for about 150 people for the dinner and tickets will be $50.
Ms Smith, who has been the principal for five years, believes that Victor Scott is moving closer towards its vision of becoming a model primary school.
She said: “I think that, with the PTA and how the staff have come on board, we are definitely developing that ethos of becoming a community school, equipping students with the tools to sustain themselves once they leave.”
People can register for the events by scanning a QR code, which Ms Smith hopes will be ready this week.
