Bermuda College received a Kia Picanto from Bermuda Motors in support of its Motor Vehicle Technology associate degree, diploma and certificate programmes at the college.

The training car is the most recent addition to the automotive fleet and is equipped with an electrical training board and transmission.

The Department of Workforce Development helped to broker an industry partnership as part of its mandate to ensure students have access to the newest technology available for training purposes.

Wesley Robinson, standards and enforcement officer at the department, said: “Through our partnership with industry stakeholders, the training section of workforce development has helped position students on a direct pathway towards national certification.

“It underscores our commitment to give Bermudians advantages in the ever-changing automotive industry.”

Lisa Cabral, Bermuda Motors HR administrator, said: “We are always looking to encourage individuals who wish to pursue a career in this field. We recently had Aiden Lopes join us from Bermuda College as an apprentice in our service department and in addition to Aiden we have two young men shadowing our A1 technicians in the body and paint shops. All three of these young men have shown great enthusiasm and promise.”

L’Tanya Roberts, dean of the division added: “Motor vehicle technology is a field that is constantly transforming with new systems and operations to learn, and new skills required.

“The college is indebted to Bermuda Motors and the Department of Workforce Development for helping our students stay current in their training with a view to becoming future masters of the trade.”
