Students show off their gift for art
Fresh perspectives from student artists have gone before the public for the island’s annual middle and senior school art exhibition.
The 58th yearly display of artworks opened tonight at the Bermuda Society of Arts Gallery in City Hall in Hamilton, where the free exhibition remains until May 16.
Each student gets a certificate of participation from the Department of Education as well as a chance to win the people’s choice award for best middle or senior school artist.
The public can cast votes for their favourite artworks at the show, entitled Transformations: A Fresh Perspective.
Diallo Rabain, the Minister of Education, said it was an opportunity for young artists to “shine, reflect, and share the world from their eyes”.
He told students: “It is your expression that will continue to help shape the future.”
The collection brings together work from Clearwater and Dellwood middle schools, Sandys Secondary Middle School, the Whitney Institute, the Berkeley Institute, CedarBridge Academy, Bermuda High School, Warwick Academy, Saltus, Mount Saint Agnes Academy, Somersfield Academy and the Bermuda Institute.
