A small fire broke out at Bermuda High School yesterday afternoon, but no one was injured, the educational institution has said.

Carol Swainson, the Head of School, contacted parents and guardians about the incident on Monday evening stating: “Around 5pm, a small fire broke out in the outside area near the main entrance in a pile of old equipment that had been put out for removal.

“Thankfully, there were no children in the vicinity at the time and nobody was injured.

“However, there were students in the primary building who did smell the smoke. Everyone on campus at the time was safely evacuated.

“The fire department was called and arrived quickly and the fire was put out in short order.

“Minor damage was received to the exterior of the building and one of the rain covers was destroyed. There is smoke damage inside the main building.”
