Parish council awards scholarships to three students
A parish council has granted academic scholarships to three students this year.
A spokeswoman for Hamilton Parish Council said the organisation’s scholarship committee looked at the academic achievement, financial need, extracurricular activities and community service initiatives of the applicants, all of whom live in the parish and have completed their freshman year of college.
The committee interviewed six finalists last month and, thanks in part to a donation from the Lyceum Trust, which was set up to support the youth of the parish, awarded scholarships to Vincent Darrell, Julian Roser and Robert Thomas.
Mr Roser, who graduated from CedarBridge Academy, is pursuing electrical engineering at St Mary’s University in Canada, and Mr Thomas, who is studying pastoral leadership at Valor Christian College in the United States, graduated from the Berkeley Institute.
Mr Darrell graduated from Saltus Grammar School and is studying business management and marketing at Solent University in Southampton, England.
“The committee wishes all students well in their academic endeavours and looks forward to hearing of their progress during the course of the year,” the spokeswoman said.
