Registration open for children to take Portuguese classes
Parents can register their children for Portuguese classes this year.
The Portuguese School of Bermuda teaches the language to primary school students across six grade levels.
Classes are taught in accordance with the Quadro de Referência para o Ensino Português no Estrangeiro – the official framework for teaching Portuguese as a second language — and will be offered at the Vasco Da Gama club on Reid Street. They will start on September 25.
Lidia Silva, who taught the language in London, England and her native Madeira, Portugal, will teach the classes.
Children in Year 1 will meet on Mondays and Thursdays; Year 2 students on Tuesdays and Fridays; and Year 3 students on Wednesdays, all from 4pm to 5.15pm.
Ms Silva will also teach Year 3 classes on Mondays from 5.30pm to 6.45pm.
Year 4 will also meet at this time on Tuesdays and Thursdays and classes for Years 5 and 6 will be taught on Wednesdays and Fridays during this period.
Payment for the class, wish costs $300 for the year, is due by September 29.
Those who want to pay in instalments must pay the first half by that date and the rest by January 12, 2024.
• Donations to the Portuguese Cultural Association, the charity that runs the school, can be made through Butterfield Bank account number 20006060707516100, with the name Portuguese School of Bermuda.
