New classrooms officially opened at MSA
Young students at the island’s only Catholic school can explore their creativity in new classrooms.
The Bishop Robert J Kurtz Early Learning Centre at Mount Saint Agnes Academy now houses two kindergarten classrooms, two Grade 1 rooms, two early learning programme rooms and an art studio.
Principal Anna Faria-Machado said the new rooms had allowed the school to accept more students into its Early Learning Programme, which is open to children who turn four years old by December 31.
Wieslaw Spiewak, the Catholic Bishop of Bermuda, said a blessing during a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the classrooms last month.
The new rooms feature reading nooks, common areas and spaces for both independent and group work. The art studio is between the classrooms.
Tracey Wicks, the school’s atelierista, said: “Art, in its many forms, plays an enormous role in the Reggio Emilia approach to learning.
“Our youngest students now have a dedicated space for their creativity to flourish.”
The Reggio Emilia approach to early education helps students learn through following their individual interests and talents.
