Schools bus-pass conundrum resolved
Students attending two schools were not issued their school bus passes after an “administrative oversight” by the Department of Education.
According to parents commenting on social media this week, some children were refused the free ride they are entitled to because of the error.
The department has said the issue has now been rectified.
One mother wrote on the Facebook group MAJ’s List: “My daughter had this issue when school started. Some drivers let her on and others made her pay.
“I called the bus depot and was basically told it was up to the driver, despite my daughter having a 2023-2024 full time student, school ID.
“They also told me I should call the Department of Education because they are responsible for issuing passes. I left a voice message with the Department of education but never got a return call.
“Funny enough, the next day passes were delivered and issued by the college. All that to say, don’t waste your time going to the bus depot.
“There is a 2023-2024 school year pass, and they should have been issued to the schools by Department of Education.”
In a statement, the Department of Education said: "The Department of Education provides school bus passes for public and private schools annually. This year bus passes were delivered before school resumed.
"Unfortunately, due to an administrative oversight, two out of the 41 schools on the distribution list did not receive the passes.
“The department contacted the two schools affected and the passes have been delivered to both schools.
“Parents should note that if a student did not receive a pass, the school administrator should be notified and follow up with the Department of Education."
