Education professionals, parents and members of the community are being invited to help to redesign parish primary schools and senior schools as part of the Government’s reform plans.

The Ministry of Education extended the invitation to those interested in joining the school transformation teams that will help to shape public education.

Lisa DeSilva, the head of the Education Reform Unit, said the teams play a significant role in designing schools that prepare students for “a purposeful and thriving future”.

She said: “These teams will be responsible for designing, prototyping and implementing new models of teaching, learning and schooling for various schools across the island.”

The school transformation teams will contribute to the redesign of the Devonshire parish school opening at Elliot Primary School in 2025 and the Smith’s parish school opening at Harrington Sound Primary School in 2025. They will also continue the transformation of the Hamilton parish school at Francis Patton Primary School and the Warwick parish school at Purvis Primary School.

Ms DeSilva said: “The transition teams for parish primary schools will be engaged in co-designing the blueprint statements [overarching goals], developing a plan for learning spaces to support 21st-century teaching and learning, continuing curriculum development for Year 2 and Year 8, and co-designing the unique features of the school in alignment with the community and students’ needs.”

The transition teams for senior schools will focus on developing Sandys Secondary Middle School as a new senior signature school for the Hospitality and Tourism, and Education Services signature-learning programmes.

They will continue the work at the CedarBridge Academy Stem, and with Trades and Professions signatures.

Finally, they will continue the work started at The Berkeley Institute’s Health and Social Care, and with Finance and Insurance Services signatures.

Anyone interested in joining the teams should complete an expression of interest form at https://bit.ly/Non_Educator_EOI_2023 by November 10 or e-mail schoolredesign@moed.bm.

The induction and onboarding session will take place this month, and work on the school transformation teams will continue until September 2025.

Ms DeSilva added: “The time commitment to the team will vary from week to week, month to month. If this sounds like you, then join a school transformation team and help shape Bermuda's public education system.”
