Edwards named Somersfield’s director of student life
An educator with almost 30 years of experience has been appointed Somersfield Academy’s new director of student life.
Tanisha Edwards, who has worked at the school for ten years and in education for 26, will step into the role in September.
Ms Edwards will ensure that the school’s mission and commitment to justice, equity, diversity and inclusion are front and centre.
A statement from the school said that Ms Edwards will also “oversee learning and behaviour support, scholarship programmes and personal development initiatives for students.
“Her role will involve providing mediation between students, parents and staff, as well as implementing policies and procedures to support students' wellbeing.”
Ms Edwards said she was excited to “work alongside the dedicated team here to support the growth and development of our students”.
“I look forward to fostering a culture of inclusivity, empathy and personal growth that empowers every student and colleague to thrive,” she added.
Riki Teteina, the Head of School, said Ms Edwards’s “wealth of experience, dedication to educational excellence and passion for serving the community make her the ideal candidate to lead our efforts in supporting the holistic development of our students”.
In addition to bachelor’s degrees in elementary education and middle school social studies and a master’s degree in organisational management, Ms Edwards has a diploma in Montessori education and professional development training in areas such as restorative practices, educational equity and diversity.
