Love is Love BDA raises $2,500 for LGBTQ+ bursary
A fundraising brunch to raise funds for a scholarship for LGBTQ+ students raised a quarter of its $10,000 goal.
Love is Love BDA donated $2,500 as a gesture of goodwill to OutBermuda’s 2024 Education Bursary.
The money was raised through donations and raffle ticket sales at Love is Love BDA’s brunch at Thyme Restaurant in Paget on February 4.
Tiffany Paynter, the executive director for OutBermuda, praised the event as “a beautiful moment in time” and thanked Chris Douglas, the cofounder of Love is Love BDA, for his help.
She said: “People that attended don’t see the phone calls, e-mails, chasing up and organising that he did to make the event run so smoothly.
“But because of his work behind the scenes, OutBermuda is $2,500 closer to our goal.”
Jameka Smith, the board leader for OutBermuda’s Education Bursary, said: “I’d like to thank Love is Love BDA for the generous donation from this event that will benefit the recipient of our 2024 Education Bursary.
“Our team at OutBermuda looks forward to future event collaborations with Love is Love BDA, and we appreciate Christopher and his team for taking the initiative to help raise funds on our behalf.”
Raffle prizes at the brunch included a Shy Creation 14k rose gold ring as well as vouchers for Belco, Crisson Jewellers, Northshore Medical & Aesthetics Centre, Island Restaurant Group, The Booth and Harbourside Holdings.
Donations were also made by Bermuda Bookstore, Flying Colours and Uplift.
The event included entertainment and dance performances by Marcus Smith.
Love is Love BDA will host another event on June 2 at Bolero Brasserie to celebrate Global Pride Month.
The proceeds will also go towards OutBermuda’s 2024 Education Bursary.
