The much anticipated science fair for the Bermuda Institute celebrated its return on Thursday night after a hiatus of years caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Students and their displays packed the Southampton school’s auditorium after area MP Zane DeSilva cut the ribbon.

Projects submitted by pre-K pupils up to the grade 12 senior class ranged from glowing jellyfish and wind-driven electricity to the science of traditional Bermudian lime kilns.

The school’s science department has made the fair an annual fixture for the community since 2009.

Diallo Rabain, the education minister, was fresh from attending Paget Primary School’s Black Bermudian history museum and the winter production at Francis Patton Primary School.

“These are the times that really make my job the joy that it should be,” Mr Rabain told them.

“Today’s education is not just about repeating what’s in front of you. It’s about creating your own pathway.”
