Youth-development summit hosted

A volunteer-driven youth programme founded in 2007 hosted its first international summit last month.

The Mirrors Programme, aimed at getting young people’s lives back on track, brought together more than 75 participants for a summit at the Willowbank Resort in Somerset for a workshop of teachers, youth workers and parents.

Tinée Furbert, the Minister of Youth, said the gathering was held in tandem with Quantum Learning Global, a social and emotional development company based in the United States.

Quantum learning, an integrated teaching style, has been in use in the island’s schools for 20 years.

Ms Furbert said the “transform your perspective” summit had brought participants from the US, Argentina, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan and the Dominican Republic to the island to share insights in personal development for young people.

The summit included a five-day camp for 33 middle school students.

Ms Furbert told the House of Assembly: “At the close of the camp, each young person stood on the stage and shared what traits make up their core and how they would share their greatness with the world.”
