Candy striper scholarship relaxes restrictions
A scholarship for candy stripers has relaxed its restrictions, the bursary provider has shared.
The Hospitals Auxiliary of Bermuda will now allow previous awardees of the annual scholarship to reapply for a second year.
Pat Cerra, the president of the HAB, said: “Any candy striper enrolled in the programme at the time of application, who has completed a minimum of two years, is eligible.”
First-year applicants who meet the criteria for the scholarships are eligible for an award in any discipline.
Scholarships can be used for studying abroad or in Bermuda, but must go strictly towards the cost of education, such as book fees or tuition.
The HAB takes in about 40 pupils every year, and currently has 103 candy stripers in its programme.
Applicants must apply before turning 14.
The HAB last year awarded four scholarships to candy stripers totalling $12,000.
Scholarship applications are available in the HAB office located on the ground floor of the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital’s General Wing.
They can also be found by e-mailing jane.wright@bhb.bm.
Applications must be submitted no later than June 23.
